The Samuel R. Watkins Camp's main purpose is to maintain and defend Confederate Heritage and perpetuate the memory of the honorable Confederate soldier who fought bravely during the American Civil War (War Between the States [1861-1865]).
The Samuel R. Watkins Camp #29 is strictly a patriotic, historical, educational, benevolent, non-political, and non-sectarian entity bound by its by-laws and governed by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Constitution. Membership is open to any male 12 years of age and older who can show lineal decent or collateral kinship from a Confederate Soldier who served honorably during the 1861-1865 period.
Soldiers who switched sides, deserted their unit or served in a non-regular group (E.g. raiding with outlaw bands on the "Southern Side" for the sake of profit, destruction, murder and mayhem) during the war is not considered honorable service. 'Soldiers' who served as teamsters, cooks etc. may be able to join but only if they were considered a bona fide member of any given Confederate unt and proof must be in the form of official records and or documents. Family letters or entires in diaries are not suitable for entry.
We encourage any and all to become a part of us. For those who cannot find an ancestor who fought, we do have associate memberships and the International headquarters now offers a "Friends of the SCV" application.
