ETIQUETTE OF THE BALLROOM
-
Draw on your gloves before entering the ballroom, and do not be for one moment with them off in the dancing room.
-
Gentlemen, be very careful not to forget an engagement. It is an unpardonable breach of politeness.
-
A lady who declines dancing with a gentleman should afford him some reason; the gentleman receiving graciously her answer.
-
The gentleman should offer his arm to the lady who consents to dance with him. At the conclusion, he will re-conduct her to her place and thank her for the honour of the dance.
-
The customary honours of a bow and a curtsey should be given at the commencement and conclusion of each dance.
-
In dancing, the performers of both sexes should endeavor to wear a pleasant and festive countenance.
-
If a lady waltzes with you, beware not to press her waist; you must only lightly touch it with an open palm of your hand.
-
When an unpracticed dancer makes a mistake, we may apprise him of error; but it would be very impolite to have the air of giving him a lesson.
